If you own a lap­top com­puter or a desk­top com­puter that you pur­chased from a retail chain or a com­puter sup­plier sup­ply­ing branded lap­tops then it will have come pre­in­stalled with your com­puter oper­at­ing sys­tem (win­dows e.g. win­dows 7, xp, vista). This pre­in­stalled copy of win­dows comes with the appro­pri­ate dri­vers (scripts that tell your com­puter how to inter­act with win­dows) and also third party soft­ware such as nor­ton inter­net secu­rity and other pre­in­stalled soft­ware vary­ing depend­ing on the manufacturer.

There are a vari­ety of rea­sons that you may want your com­puter to have a fac­tory restora­tion. The most com­mon rea­son for a cus­tomer request­ing a fac­tory restora­tion is due to installing a new oper­at­ing sys­tem on their desk­top com­puter or lap­top. This often hap­pens when a friend or a ‘friend of a friend’ tells the cus­tomer about a newer or dif­fer­ent ver­sion of win­dows and the cus­tomer upgrades their com­puter only to find that the new oper­at­ing sys­tem does not func­tion prop­erly on their com­puter or because they sim­ply do not like it. Com­plet­ing a fac­tory restora­tion is the best solu­tion in this case as you can reuse the win­dows license that came with your desk­top com­puter or lap­top when you rein­stall the same oper­at­ing sys­tem on that machine.
